| Obituary: |
With her family by her side Lorraine passed away at the Dauphin General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 67.
She was predeceased by her parents, and sister Denise Jones.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Mike, and her children: Kathy (Larry), Harry (Diane), Theresa (Scott), Michael (Jennifer), Joey; and her grandchildren Jeffrey, Jenna, Jessica, Danny, Amber, Shanna, Michelle, Kelsey, Cassandra, Zoey and Eric; and also her great grandchildren Cassandra, Zachary, Ayden, Ainsley. She also leaves to mourn her passing her brothers and sisters Roger, Gilbert, Laurent, and Fernand and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was born in Ste. Rose du Lac, MB to Henri and Augusta Beasse on September 16, 1941. She met and married the love of her life Mike of 50 years. As a married couple they began their journey on the family farm in Rosa, MB. There they farmed and started a family. Shortly thereafter they moved to Dauphin, MB in 1960 where Lorraine worked at various jobs until she successfully completed her L.P.N. course in 1977. In the career of her choice Lorraine practised nursing from 1977 until 1992 when she was forced to retire as a result of an injury.
While raising their family Mike and Lorraine, also opened their hearts and home to many. In addition to caring for numerous foster children Mike and Lorraine also shared their hospitality with family and friends. On very short notice, Lorraine was always prepared to welcome visitors with open arms.
Lorraine’s passions were many. Spending time with her grand and great grandchildren were at the top of her list. She loved cooking, gardening, yard care, berry and mushroom picking and enjoyed nature. True to her spirit was her strong faith and fellowship with the church.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Stecker and the nursing staff at the Dauphin General Hospital.
A memorial service celebrating Lorraine’s life was held on Thursday, August 27th, at 2:00 pm at Mountainview Christian Assembly. Interment was held at Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Dauphin General Hospital, 625 3rd Street S.W., Dauphin, MB R7N 1R7

Early in the morning of December 10, 2009, our beloved mother and brother passed away. Etta Amman and Harry Amman were predeceased by their husband and father, Frederick Amman in July of 2001. They were also predeceased by Etta’s parents, Harm and Hemkea Schroeder, and Frederick’s parents, Heinrich and Friedricke Amman. They were also predeceased by Etta’s brothers Chris, Bruno, and Herman Schroeder, sister Margaret Wirch, brother-in-law Ed Wirch, and sisters-in-law Frieda Schroeder and Greta Schnittjer.
They are survived by sons and brothers Henry, wife Cynthia, and Fred, along with Etta’s sisters Herta & husband Alec, Geertsema, Erma & husband Leonard, DeVries, sisters-in-law Lena Amman and Marjorie Schroeder, and many dear nieces and nephews.
Etta Schroeder was born December 8, 1924 in Ditzumerverlaat, Ostfriesland, Germany. She was the fourth of seven children born to Harm and Hemkea Schroeder. In 1928 the family immigrated to Canada where they located in the Ochre River area. They lived at several sites but finally settled at the homestead a mile north of the current Grace Baptist Church. She attended the Turtle River School and she and her family fellowshipped at the Grace Baptist Church. Following her schooling, Mom worked outside of her home babysitting and housekeeping, both locally and in Winnipeg.
On April 29, 1949, she married Frederick Amman in the Grace Baptist Church. They moved to the farm situated east of Ste. Rose du Lac where Mom continued to reside. Here they raised their family of three boys, Henry, Harry, and Fred. Mom enjoyed her role of caring for her family. Even when she was unable to do much any more physically for us, she continued to pray for us. She especially loved it when people would come over and she could feed them. There were always leftovers even when she had unexpected guests. You never came away from her table unsatisfied. After Dad retired, since there was only the two of them to cook for, he did manage to take her out for meals on occasion or at least for coffee. Later on, when she was alone, family and friends were always calling on her and insisting on taking her to town to do her shopping and that, naturally, ended up with a cup of coffee at one of the local restaurants. Once Harry returned home, they went out for meals much more often, as many of you can attest to. For a person who earlier in life did not care to go out much, later on she enjoyed planning these outings, especially if it involved celebrating the birthday of one of her dear friends. Thank you to all of you who took the time to encourage her to go out.
Harry Bruno Amman was born September 20, 1952 in Ste. Rose du Lac. He grew up on the family farm and went to school in Ste. Rose du Lac. Following his schooling, he worked as an orderly, first at the St. Paul’s Home in Dauphin and then at the hospital in Ste. Rose. While working in the hospital, he became a volunteer with the Ste. Rose Ambulance and later on was the coordinator of this service. After working for many years in Ste. Rose, he decided to change careers. He had become interested in doing video work and had started a small business with a friend doing that kind of work. I am sure that is what led him to take the Broadcast Arts course at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon. He spent two years there doing the theoretical part of the course and then went to Regina to do the practicum portion. That was the beginning of Harry’s life in Saskatchewan. For the first few years, Harry worked at several jobs ranging from security work to sales, until he took a job with Vision Security. He forged many wonderful and lasting friendships in Regina and we are so thankful that he had those dear friends.
Harry loved people – he was interested and caring of those he knew, he enjoyed company. You had to look carefully at the clock if you were planning to contact him because if it was near meal-time, chances were that he was out with someone for a meal. If you ever were in Regina and needed to know of a good place to eat, Harry was the one to call, never mind checking your I-phone. The same held true for the churches in Regina – he knew the location of all of them I’m sure, but that is not to say that his deep faith in Christ ever wavered – it never did. His church was important to him and needed to be one where the Gospel was not only preached, but lived. One other very important aspect to his life in Regina was his involvement in the German Choir. Again, he got to interact with people not only from the city but other German choirs from Manitoba through Alberta when they had their Saengerfest.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the Ochre River Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Allen Unger and Pastor Keith Friesen officiating. Ken Schroeder, Eldon Schroeder, Larry DeVries, Keith DeVries, David Geertsema, Garth Mackie, Edmund Amman, John Schroeder, John Oltrop, Wayne Worrall, Guy Tardiff, and Gerald DeVries were the pallbearers with Dominic Picard as the honorary pallbearer.
Family and friends were so very important to both Mom and Harry. Thank you all for your roles in their lives and for your support, and thank you to you, our family, friends, and community for your support of us in our time of need.
Donations may be made for a thermal imaging camera that is able to “see” through smoke for the Ste. Rose Fire Department, Box 173, Ste. Rose du Lac, MB, R0L 1S0.
