Carmichael David
Date of birth:  December 31, 1915
Died:  July 13, 2009

Prayers:  July 20, 2009,7:30 pm ,Sneath Strilchuk Chapel, Main Street, Dauphin MB
Funeral:  July 21, 2009, 2:00 pm, Parkside Gospel Church, Dauphin MB
Obituary:
David Edward Carmichael passed away while a resident at the Dauphin Personal Care Home on Monday, July 13, 2009 at the age of 93. David was born on New Year’s Eve in 1915 at home to Archibald and Margaret (Young) Carmichael. He was the fourth of eight children.

David grew up on the family farm south of Dauphin and received his education at Durston School, he stayed on the farm until becoming a resident of the Dauphin Personal Care home in the fall of 2006. David had a special relationship with his mother and when she passed away when he was seventeen, he and his siblings all dug in and worked to keep the farm going. During WWII, David and four of his siblings Jim, Bob, Mary and Leonard all joined the Army with David being rejected due to a heart condition. He was happy to stay at home and help keep the farm going.
In 1948 he and his brothers Bob and Len bought a purebred Herferd Bull and built up a herd of purebred herferds that they were all very proud of. In his later years, he and his brother Bob sold their cattle and then they retired. After retirement David and Bob took up playing Horseshoes and the two of them travelled around Manitoba and Saskatchewan winning many trophies. David was a two time senior champion in Manitoba in the forty foot throwing event in 1983 and 1984 and runner up four other times in the 1980’s. Dave and his brother Bob participated every year in the Annual Pioneer in Dauphin and took on the responsibility of setting up the horseshoe pits each year for this event. David was always fond of his family and especially enjoyed visits from his nieces and nephews. When they would come to visit, he would put them on his horses, cows and even his bull “Stevie” for a ride and once the great nieces and nephews came along, Uncle Dave would help them pick raspberries and strawberries. This was an activity that even the neighbours would come and participate in. Many people enjoyed the “fruit from the patch”. David was a farmer and throughout the years, he harvested many of the relatives and neighbours fields with a horse and threshing machine. He also had a trap line and enjoyed nature and all birds, animals and flowers. He loved to share his knowledge of nature with anyone that showed an interest. He loved to go for long walks in the bush and in his later years when he could no longer do this, he was found still enjoying nature from his kitchen window while sitting in his rocking chair. He was very proud of his long beard and while in town children were known to come up to him and ask him if he was Santa Claus. He would chuckle. He will be fondly remembered and missed by all.

David was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Archibald, siblings James, John (Jack), Margaret (Charlie Fee), Robert, Mary, Leonard and Donald as well as his niece, nephew-in-law Mary[ Arvin ] and great niece Karla Bos.

David is survived by his cousin Bill of Dauphin, MB, sister-in-law Edra Carmichael of McBride, BC, nieces and nephews Chet and Muriel Fee of Powell River, BC, Betty and Ross Seale of Lloydminster, AB, Iris and Bob Johnson of Goodsoil, SK, Wes and Sharon Fee of Dauphin, MB , Cameron and Denise Carmichael of Valemount BC, Colin and Sandi Carmichael of Sherwood Park, AB as well as many great nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers should friends so desire, donations in memory of David may be made to the Fort Dauphin Museum in Dauphin.

Funeral service for David was held on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at the Parkside Gospel Church in Dauphin with Pastor Roger Woywoda officiating. Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin. Pallbearers were Colin Carmichael, Dori Fee, Warren Fee, John Kachurowski, Steve Marvin and Barry Morton.
All of David’s friends were to consider themselves honorary pallbearers.
