D'Aoust Gilbert

Obituary:
Sadly on April 3, 2010 at the age of 73, the Lord called Gilbert D’Aoust home after his courageous year-long battle with cancer.

Gil was born February 4, 1937 in Ochre River, Manitoba, on the family farm, to Laurent and Louise D’Aoust. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith in Makinak, Manitoba. .

In his younger years, Gil worked in road construction in Manitoba and he also farmed for a couple of years. He was a grain buyer for 23 years but was forced to retire after suffering a heart attack in 1992 at the age of 55. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and gardening. He especially enjoyed having his grandchildren around him.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years Verna, children Michelle (Brent), Rick (Connie), Randy (Cheryl), Leanne (Corey), grandchildren Christopher, Nicole, Tyler, Dustin, Chantelle, and Mikayla, brother Lou (Terri), his nieces and nephew as well as several relatives and friends.

Gilbert was predeceased by his parents as well as his sister Lorette.

Funeral services for Gil were held on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at St. Viator’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Yolando Gamallo officiating. Interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rees Lloyd, Albert Jackson, Terry D’Aoust, Reg Vaughan, Chris LeMay, and Jim Durston. The Honorary Pallbearers were his six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Gil to a charity of their choice.

Damsgaard Fred

Obituary:
It is with great love and wonderful memories that Fred’s family announces his peaceful passing.

Remaining to forever cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years Laura (Boles), his children Brian (Wendy) of Dauphin, Bonar (Sherri) of Kelowna, Karen (Ken) Irvine, Donna (Bill) Wilford, and Rob (Tanya) all of Winnipeg. Grandchildren Bradley, Kristopher, Kevin, Dwayne (Jamie), Kraig, Darren, Meaghan, Marissa and Madison, Great-Grandchild Addison, Brother Gunnar (Myrtle) of Ochre River and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Pre-deceased by his parents Nels and Margrethe, sister Kristina, brothers Ove, Peter, Aksel, Piers and grand-daughter Leanne.

Fred lived life to the fullest. He had a remarkable memory and loved to regale family and friends with stories of his early life. He was born in Logten, Denmark and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1925 and settled in the Dauphin area. Fred and Laura married in 1942 and had a mixed farming operation before retiring to the Eclipse district in 1984 and more recently to Dauphin.

Always active in the community, Fred was a long time member of the BPO Elks, Dauphin Agricultural Society, DMCC Board, Dauphin Heritage Club, 3D Saddle Club, Eclipse Water Board, Sifton Community Pasture Board and Manco Dairies Board of Directors.

Dad’s greatest qualities were his selflessness, his generosity and his ability to uplift the the spirits of others and put a smile on someone’s face with his witty sense of humour. Dad’s passing will leave a tremendous void in our lives and he will be sadly missed.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Dauphin First United Church with Reverends Ed and Georgina Loucks officiating. Sandra Dowhan served as organist, accompanying the First United Church Choir. Brian Damsgaard and Donna Wilford delivered the eulogy on behalf of the family. Pallbearers were grandchildren Bradley Damsgaard, Kevin Damsgaard, Kristopher Irvine, Kraig Irvine, Dwayne Damsgaard, Darren Damsgaard, Meaghan Wilford, Marissa Wilford and Madison Wilford. Interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery.

Obituary:
Verna DeBaere passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 23rd, 2010 at the Dauphin General Hospital.

Verna DeBaere will be sadly missed and is survived by her loving husband of 27 years Emile DeBaere, Sister Josephine Clemons (Gordon), Daughter Debbie Tacan (Frank), Sons, Greg Krivda, Keith Krivda, Martin Boice (Terry), Johnny Raaphorst (Celine), Vance Grausso, Vernon Krivda. Grandchildren, Shawn Asham, (Sherry), Cynthia Martindale (Mark), Jeremy Routhier (Tara), Jessica Sanden (Alex), Danielle Routhier (Shea), Lacey Krivda, Carley Krivda, Nicholas Krivda. Great-grandchildren, Emily, Donovan, Angel, Shawn, Cody, Nicholas, Andrew, Devlin (Sugar Bear), Daniel, Layne, and Anna Marie, A niece who was very close to her heart, Bertha Moose (Patrick). Numerous Nieces and Nephews whom she loved and many other friends she considered family.

Verna was born in Thicket Portage Manitoba, on August 5th, 1940, to late parents, Cyril Mercredi of Grand Rapids and Jessie Beardy of Cross Lake Manitoba. She married Emile DeBaere whom she considered her Sweetheart. They moved to Crane River so she could be close to grandchildren. Verna (Grannie) loved her family and they were the centre of her life. She had so much love for her grandchildren and they adored her. Verna had a passion for life and was a loving non-judgmental person who opened her door to everyone. One could always find a good home cooked meal, lots of laughter, generosity and kindness. She understood that people needed love and she was never afraid to give it. Verna always shared what little she had, cared for those in her company and showed kindness to everyone. We are thankful for the time we had her with us on this earth. She will be lovingly missed by her family and friends. Grannie we love you and thank you for all the teachings and love you have given us. We will pass that on to our children and grandchildren. You have left us a legacy of love.

Prayers were offered on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. from the Riverside Evergreen Chapel in Dauphin. Funeral service was held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Riverside Evergreen Chapel with Pastor Howard Burnie officiating.

Demchuk Betty

Obituary:
With deep sorrow, we mourn the sudden passing of Betty Demchuk on November 8, 2009.

Betty is survived by her husband Donald of 41 years; children Donna Dowler (Amos) and Darlene Maguet (Miguel); grandchildren Morgan, Damien and Payton.

Betty was predeceased by her Father (Metro) in 2008 and her brother Russell in 1940.

Betty is survived by her Mother Annie Sorokopud of Roblin Manitoba, Sisters Sonia Chomiak (Mel) from Sudbury Ontario, Ruth (Gil), Diane Jones (Peter) from Winnipeg Manitoba, her brother Myron Sorokopud from Roblin, Manitoba and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty was the eldest of six children, born on March 20, 1941 in Roblin Manitoba. After moving to Dauphin Manitoba, Betty had career in the medical field as a receptionist for many years, eventually marrying and having children. Betty was a dedicated wife, mother, Baba, sister, aunt and friend. Throughout her life, few things made Betty happier than baking and cooking for family and friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Doctors and staff at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg and the ICU staff at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre.

Although our hearts are broken and many tears have been shed, we are comforted in the knowledge that God has welcomed Betty to Heaven.

A celebration of Betty’s life was held with Prayers at The Ukrainian Catholic Church of The Ressurection in Dauphin, Mantoba on Thursday November 12, 2009 at 6:30 PM. Funeral Service was held Friday November 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM at The Ukrainian Catholic Church of The Ressurection in Dauphin, Mantoba. Father Oleg Bodnarski and Bishop Peter Stasiuk, C.Ss.R. officiated. Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Devin Chomiak, Delvin Chomiak, Jefferson, Clayton, Dan Demchuk (Nephews), and Eric Lopez (Friend).

In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Arthritis Society of Canada.

Derkach Mike

Obituary:
Mike Derkach of Valley River, MB passed away March 24th, 2010 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre.

Mike was born August 24th, 1922 in Valley River and was educated at Trembowla School. He farmed in the Valley River area. In 1955 he was employed with National Elevators and then Cargill Elevators. He was promoted to Construction Foreman and built many elevators throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan until his retirement. He enjoyed visits and phone calls with family and friends, and was always ready to have a good game of crib. He resided on the farm until his death.

He was predeceased by his parents Theodore and Hannah, one brother Matt, and one sister Toni.

Surviving him are two sisters, Mary and husband William Michaluk of Dauphin, Emily and husband Walter Gawaziuk of Valley River, one brother Orest and wife Tannis of Steinbach, sister-in-law Mary Derkach of Mink Creek and brother-in-law Walter Soroka of Winnipeg, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Memorial service was held on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. from the Riverside Evergreen Chapel in Dauphin with the Reverend Father Oleg Bodnarski officiating. Ernie Sirski served as Cantor. Interment will take place at a later date.

Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Valley River Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church or to the Cemetery Fund.
