Lamb Merle
Date of birth:  January 17, 1930
Died:  April 7, 2010
Send Condolence
Prayers:  No Prayer Service
Funeral:  April 13, 2010, 2:00 pm, Tummel Church, Tummel MB
Obituary:
Merle was born on January 17, 1930. His mother wanted a little girl on her birthday, January 12, but got a little boy born on his fathers’ birthday January 17.

Merle’s father was a twin. Their names were John Wesley Lamb and Charles Wesley Lamb. Their mother’s name was Mae Elizabeth Roberts.

When Merle was a little boy he did not want to go to school, he wanted to stay home with his mom and dad. Eventually he began to enjoy school and did quite well in his classes. In high school, he began to lead his class and made his parents quite proud. His first eleven years were at Tummel School and he completed his Grade Twelve in Roblin. Merle attended the University of Winnipeg but decided to make his vocation farming. God was good to him and he made a good living on the farm.

John and Mae lost two children; Baby Mae was eleven months old when she passed away in 1926 of pneumonia and Billy was six when he was taken by a drunk driver. Merle was a loving son who helped care for his father, mother and sister until Jesus welcomed them to Heaven.

In 1955, his father had a heart attack and bronchial problems so the family went to Phoenix, Arizona, which added ten years to his father’s life. The family came home to the farm in the summer and enjoyed the winter months in Arizona. His father passed on to be with the Lord in 1964. By that time, his mother needed a warm climate, which added years to her own life. She lived to be two weeks short of ninety-four years old, passing away in 1983.

His sister Kathryn was employed by the Arizona State School Division. In 1975, Kathryn came down with a cancer called Multiple Melanoma, which acted very fast, and after about six weeks, she passed away. She was buried in Tummel Deer Park Cemetery in the family plot.

Merle’s family always expressed appreciation for the care and love he showed in caring for his loved ones.

Merle had a great faith in Jesus Christ and loved God and the Church. God gave him a fine voice and Merle used it singing in churches. They said Merle was Tummel’s soloist. He sang nearly every Sunday in Tummel and was a member of Glendale Choir where he sang many solos and sang at funerals when asked. Merle loved to share his gift of song with people through choirs and performances.

Later in life, Merle followed his brother John and his wife Conola to Durant, Oklahoma where he spent six months in Durant during the winter months and returned to Canada in the summer. He enjoyed the best of both worlds. Merle was also a member of Durant Methodist Choir. They enjoyed his low bass voice.

In 2001, he sold his home and stayed in a suite at the Assessippi Inn. He found it easy to have very good friends and appreciated them very much. He became especially close to Eugene Sochaski over the last few years. Eugene was special to Merle and became a very good friend. They would celebrate holidays together and spend many hours visiting.

Merle was an outgoing man who loved to visit and meet new people. He was very considerate and enjoyed talking to people, listening to them and learning about them.

Merle’s consideration for others was recently recognized as he received an award for 25 years of consecutive volunteering at Crocus Court. Every Wednesday Merle would drive up to Roblin from Russell and share his voice in song with the residents at the care home.

Merle was a passionate supporter of Tummel Church and Cemetery. He loved the Tummel community and often talked about the resting place of his family. He will be sadly missed and forever remembered by all those who knew him.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Tummel Church with the Rev. David Maxwell and the Rev. David Howell officiating. The organist was Allison Shearer-Craig, accompanying the Tummel Church Choir, Bob and Betty Dayson and the Rev. Maxwell. The eulogy was delivered by Eugene Sochaski. Interment followed in the Tummel Deer Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Dayson, Harvey Switzer, Jayden Hawryluk, Jayce Hawryluk, Terry Hawryluk and Marcel Gregoire.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of Merle may be made to the Tummel Church or Cemetery.

“To a good life came a peaceful end.
He died as he lived, everyone’s friend
Upright and just in all of his ways
Loving and kind to the end of his days.
We have lost, but heaven has gained,
One of the best the world contained.”
