| Obituary: |
The lives of family and friends grew much dimmer, the morning of June 4 when Matt Warelis peacefully joined Elsie in the arms of our Lord.
Matt was born August 28, 1931 to Genowefa and Francezik Warelis. His family farm, where he spent his life and the surrounding Taras and Ukraina Community were the foundation for the development of this passions, skills, ethic and social network.
His mother’s love for singing, faith, church, community, helping neighbors and welcoming people with warmth and food lead to how his whole life was lived.
Matt’s formal education was at Taras School. He spoke fondly of the Taras School and Hall community; the good times and great friends. His pride in this part of his life was shown by the replicas that he built for the yard and the importance of keeping the properties intact.
In 1954 Matt and Elsie were married and after a short residence in Winnipeg were summoned back to the farm. There, they worked hard, side by side to raise their family. Little, blonde, Bonnie joined the family in 1956, Shirley arrived next, followed by middle child Beverley and Gerald, their only son was welcomed the following year. They needed one more and Sharon came along in 1968.
Matt was a passionate, life-long farmer. Each day began with prayer, purpose and a plan. This plan was shared at breakfast or morning coffee and rarely did a day end without all goals being met. Dad, Mom and the kids worked together to meet the needs of the family day.
Matt was a skilled man. There was virtually nothing he could not build, manufacture, repair, rewire, rebuild, weld or somehow fix …. duct tape was not an option. Work had to be of quality or it was not worth his time. Family and friends alike were beneficiaries of his skills. He loved this work, whether it was setting the sieves and pullies on his beloved threshing machine or sitting in the seat of Gerald’s newest tractor with the radio blaring and air conditioning on, cultivating the field. This was his life’s work.
Matt needed to share and teach his skills and now his son Gerald can emulate all, from driving a nail to driving a team. It was Mom’s job to teach the girls and as a combination their children have been blessed with enviable abilities.
Matt was a man with deep respect for animals and nature. He loved to be in the bush picking mushrooms and berries. He lovingly helped with last autumn’s cranberry pick and the morels picked in spring of 2010. Many good memories and conversation were woven into these family times. Every hummingbird, blue jay, blue bird, sparrow, deer, rabbit or squirrel that entered the yard knew that the feeders would be full.
He loved hunting and fishing. He shared the love of hunting only with Gerald and his special hunting companions. No girls allowed. And that was OK. The whole family enjoyed the days the chores were done early and cows were milked, pockets were filled with sunflower seeds and Matt and Elsie were loading the fishing rods and family into the car. Fishing was an activity shared with many special friends as well.
Special trips were made to visit and travel east to Ontario, south to Minot and Montanna and west all the way to Alaska. Travelling north to Flin Flon was also a welcome trip for Matt.
Matt loved music and he and Elsie were smooth on the dance floor or even a spin around the kitchen to their special songs. Joining friends for dances, fishing, a good game of “king pedro”, Friday nite bingo or just a cup of coffee and a visit were important to them.
Later in life his children’s friends came to appreciate Matt’s friendship, expanding the circle of special people in his life from Flin Flon and all points down No. 10 highway south to Brandon and Winnipeg. You all have warmed his heart.
Matt was a very active member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Ethelbert, sang in the choir, served the priests and mentored new alter servers. He later joined the St. Viators parish. He was a member of the steering committee for the building of Sunnyside Lodge in Ethelbert. Matt served as an electoral returning officer and Fire Deputy in the R.M. of Ethelbert and was president and member of the Ukraina Community Centre for many years. Matt, later became a member of the Ethelbert Seniors Drop In Centre.
Matt, to his last breath, was a devoted husband and father. Elsie, his loving bride and lifelong partner was the love of his life and on his mind and in his words daily. They were a strong foundation for a family. He loved his children and encouraged them to live carefully and respectfully and instilled a tremendous work ethic. He welcomed their spouses, and the blessing of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He had contact with family every day of this life and that brought them all great satisfaction and comfort.
He is a man who is greatly loved and profoundly missed.
Matt was predeceased by Elsie in 2003. He is survived by children and their spouses Bonnie and Brent Berezowski of Dauphin, Shirley and John Thompson of Brandon, Beverley and Dean Lounsbury of Dauphin, Gerald and Karen Warelis of Ethelbert, Sharon and Dennis Kotz of Flin Flon. His grandchildren; Leeann (Kevin) Bomak, Amber and Kelly Berezowski, Brittany and Breanne Thompson, Jason and Tyler Lounsbury and great granddaughters Abby and Ainsley Bomak.
Prayers were held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 7:30 PM from St. Viator’s Roman Catholic Church with Conrad Artibise leading the service. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 10:30 AM from St. Viator’s Roman Catholic Church with the Fr. Yolando Gamallo officiating. Pastor Scott Allen read the eulogy and the interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin. Pallbearers were Dennis Warelis, Bruce Stratuliak, Ron Kostyshyn, Gary Kostyshyn, Kevin Bomak and Bob Podolsky.
If friends so desire donations may be made in memory of Matt to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Dauphin Hospital Foundation.

Shirley and John Thompson |
Since I moved back to Ethelbert, I got to visit your Mom a couple of times, along with my sister Nadia. Your Mom still had her wicked sense of humour and we so enjoyed our visits with her. I will never forget how she loved a good laugh and especially the twinkle in her eyes. You all have my deepest sympathy.

| Obituary: |
With sadness the family announces the passing of Frank Wawryk on Friday, February 5, 2010 at his residence in Grandview, Manitoba at the age of 79 years.
Frank was born in Grandview on February 1, 1931 to Angus and Mary (nee Silawich) Wawryk. He received his education in Blackstone.
Following his schooling, he began working at Slyziuk’s Saw Mill. He later moved on to the oil fields in Saskatchewan for the next five to six years. Frank eventually returned home to farm with his brother on the family homestead.
Frank enjoyed many outdoor activities, namely fishing and hunting. In his younger years, he would often fish in the Duck Mountains. He also enjoyed participating in sports such as baseball, and played on the Blackstone team for many years. Frank also coached fastball teams. He loved attending auction sales in the area, buying antiques whenever he could. Frank was a quiet man who was easy to be around. He enjoyed socializing and going to the 50+ Club for coffee and a game of pool. His first love, however, was the farm where he grew up.
At the age of 13 years, Frank suffered a crippling injury and spent six months in a cast. Although the doctors told him he would not walk after the age of 45, he defied the odds and made it all the way.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, Angus and Mary and his brother, Michael.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his brother, Alex Wawryk of Grandview as well as many cousins and extended family members.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Grandview United Church with the Reverend Steve Wilson officiating. Interment followed in the Grandview Municipal Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gordon Trembach, Leonard Deyholos, Richard Lobert, Mitch McVey, David Deyholos and Victor Roback.
Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Frank may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
